Amazon Affiliate marketing 101

Affiliate marketing is effectively a commission-based sales system. An entity registers an intent to sell another entity’s goods or services in exchange for a pre-established percentage or fixed commission.

The number of companies that offer affiliate programs is increasing daily, in fact, many of the companies you are already dealing with as a customer may offer affiliate programs. These businesses include online retailers, hosting companies, subscription model SAAS providers and more. In this article, we’ll g into how to become an Amazon affiliate patner.

How to start an Amazon affiliate marketing store

Amazon is one of the biggest online retailers and is continuing to grow worldwide. With groundbreaking processes involving high-speed AI and robotics, the speed of delivery is setting a new standard that will be very difficult to compete with as a small business. Amazon has warehouses that span acreage, with automation processes, that are spreading across countries and continents, extending their empire to reach all remote parts of the world with delivery speed precedents that quash the competition. Amazon is attracting sellers from mums and dads who purchase cheap goods from China and ship them to the Amazon warehouses for Amazon FBA onselling, to manufacturers who use the Amazon platform’s reach and traffic to sell their goods direct to the public.

Risks associated with being an Amazon FBA seller.

Selling on Amazon has many risks. Although there are many people making huge amounts of money on Amazon, there are most certainly those that crash and burn.

How to create an Amazon affiliate marketing system

The process is as follows:
  1. Create an Amazon affiliate account – make sure you are logged in for the next step.
  2. Search for highly popular products in Amazon, for a later stage, it can make sense to select a product or group of products you have some existing knowledge about, passion for or interest in. These can be literally anything you find on Amazon, from adult products to technology, homewares, fashion. Make sure the products you select have high sales rates as well as high numbers of ratings at 4-5 stars.
  3. Select products that are sold for above $30, or a range of products at different price points starting at $15 and escalating to any price.
  4. Create a website to hold your affiliate links. We can help you there, check out our Website Packages package. Or if you’re comfortable building a WordPress site, you can do this yourself.
  5. Find the SEO keywords that can be applied to your products that are highly searched and are still competitive.
  6. Wrap some great SEO rich content around your chosen products. This is why it makes sense to choose products that you have some sort of knowledge of or experience with – like camera gear for a camera enthusiast, electronics for the tech lover and homewares for the lover of cooking. This will involve either writing some blog content yourself or having some topical blog posts written for you.
  7. Post your blog content on your website, including outbound links (to your affiliate products and other links to credible information or content sources). Content should cater to the keywords and keyword strings that you identified in step 5. i.e. if an opportunity exists to cater to a search for ‘best way to fillet a fish’, and this is part of your expertise, you can create a blog post that caters to the best ways to fillet a fish, named, ‘Best ways to fillet a fish’.
  8. Run Google advertising campaigns to bring traffic to your site.
Due to your not having to actually invest in a single product, wait for that product to be manufactured, shipped to an Amazon warehouse intact (hopefully), marketed, sold (hopefully) and rated favourably rated (hopefully), you are free to use your WordPress site to create several landing pages in isolation, to test several different products. In this way, your initial investment of time and money can be expanded to test multiple markets and multiple products. For instance, I can create a landing page at ailebo.com and I can also create a landing page at ailebo.com/footwear to test a range of affiliate marketed footwear. The ailebo.com site has no crosslinking to ailebo.com/footwear and vice versa as they use completely separate menus, and can display completely separate blog posts and content.
